egypt1In the past four weeks the world has witnessed a number of protests that have happened and still happening in different countries in the Arab regions of North Africa. These protests have led to the resignation of Tunisian president and his counter part in Egypt. The media coverage of these events has been spectacular I must say. The cyclone in Australia that killed people wasn't important enough to make headlines anymore, neither was the flooding worth covering. Every resource was centred on the crisis in Egypt.

What was really interesting to the coverage of all these events was how the leaders in African countries and so called third world countries are described as being corrupt. These leaders are portrayed as the reason why their country is in poverty thereby lacking basic amenities an average citizen should have. When I read about corruption certain things comes to mind. How did a person that promised so much to his people became so selfish and greedy when brought into power? What about the fight for the common man that was pledged by these people during their campaigns?

For a long while i have been off the website. I had so much to look into and much to sort out in the last days of 2010. It's been a fun year and it's been a bad year. But the general notion most people have is that it has come and gone and a new beginning now arise due to the new year, but is that a positive notion? Let's see how this 2011 goes and judge for ourselves For me personally this new year will bring a lot more excitement to this site, more articles and more blogs with great pictures.

I want to use this opportunity to wish everyone I know and don't know a very prosperous new year ahead. We all read that it's not going to get any easy in the Great Britain. Prime Minister has said it's going to be a tough year ahead. We have witnessed the increase in the VAT. We have seen the increase in tuition fees amid the protest and other social/benefit cuts as discussed to be implemented sooner than later.

In Asia the so called notorious North Korea is extending its arm of peace to the South in the hope that it will smoothen tension between both sides as to what happened last year. So should the South ignore their masters and decides to also give the olive branch as it's called the Korean Peninsula may just have peace after all. The West have been trying to broker peace deals but  I feel when two brother have got issues it's best to let them handle it as brothers rather than outsiders poking their noses in peoples businesses for selfish gains.

racismI walked into an elevator (lift) on my way to see a friend who works in a bank in Dockland area of London. When I stepped into the lift I noticed something was not right, I was the only black person there in the mix of two white women and an Asian lady. The moment they saw me step in, they tightened their grip on their bags. Then the lift opened on the 2nd floor and another black man walked in and I noticed again the women became nervous. At the 3rd floor a white man walked in and the ladies became relaxed and all smiley. Showing that typical smiley face a ruthless Londoner shows but with so much hate in their hearts. Now what does that tell one? The thing I can't understand is the attitude given to people of different race. I believe we all human did not decide where we intend to be born. It is more of a game of chance if you ask me.

Since we humans have got different skin colours and different hair textures one will begin to ask if the issue of Racism will ever come to an end? And also the issues of racial tension has always been hyped in the areas of marriage, exhibiting certain behaviour. I know of a white woman that believed in white supremacy and was of the opinion that anything other than white was not fit to exist. Then something happened which changed her ideology. She needed a liver transplant  and the typed that matches was that of a black woman. Now this woman needed a kidney so badly she had to come out and declare herself non-racist and claimed we are all are humans and deserve to live as one. Not one member of her organisation even volunteered to get tested for a match. This now makes me alter my school of thought on the issue, that sometimes racism may have to do with our selfish nature as human irrespective of the race.

sa1In every retail organisation, there is usually someone that stands on the shop floor to meet every demands or needs of shoppers and supposed customers. These people are often referred to as Sales Assistant, Customer Assistant or Retail Assistant etc. The average life span for most Sales Assistants as they are fondly called is usually 1-4 years. This is because most of these Customer Assistants are students trying to scrape make a living. Upon graduation they leave the job as soon as possible. Although with the recession in place I guess their misery just started because of very few graduate opportunities.

When looking for a job in retail, they always describe the job as friendly and exciting environment to work. Well this is the usual con you get when you start as a fresher in retail. From experience I have found that customers are never interesting to deal with or fun to hang around with. They make the average life of a Customer Assistant hell.

I have had the opportunity to work in the retail environment, and I can say that on a daily basis Customer Assistants constantly have to think fast on their feet. This is because most shoppers or potential customers that walk into the store need an urgent answer to an issue or a problem. Not getting the answers they want might not go down well with the customer.

For example, an angry customer who has just bought an Apple MackBook Pro laptop the day before walks into the store, looking so pissed, eyes red with anger, sweat coming down his brows. In total he looks so upset that he wants to pour out his rage to the innocent Retail Assistant nearby. So the conversation goes like this:

Customer: I bought this MacBook Pro and I was told it comes with the latest operating system Snow Leopard. I just found out it’s a lie, you bastards want to rip me off.
Before the start of the World Cup in South Africa, many countries voiced their concerns. Some went as far as proclaiming that this will be the worst World Cup in the history of the tournament. Then I said to myself, why all this negative comments and bad publicity? The answers started to unfold as the day goes by and also as my thoughts begin to gather momentum towards the World Cup events.

It's no big secret that South Africa as a country has its own short comings, eg. the Time magazine published an article written by Megan Lindow 20th june 2009 that 1 in 4 men has at one time committed the rape crime and that 40% of those that agreed to the rape crime claimed to have raped more than once. Now what does this mean to the average female fan about to board a plane to the country to support her team?

Apart from the issues of rape in the country, the problem of arm robbery reared its ugly head as among the negatives of FIFA giving South Africa the hosting rights. Sebastien Berger A correspondent for the telegraph reporting from Johannesburg, quoted “Armed robberies on the increase in South Africa before the world cup”. Stories like this at the time of a major event does not do a country any good whatsoever! Now I begin to ask myself again, as usual, what does this media hype actually do to a nation? The answer to that I feel is obvious.
